Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion: how to turn your business data into live charts and animated explainers

Claude can now build a dashboard from your own business data and turn a report into an animated video. Both are in beta. Here is who can use them and how to get a result you can trust.

Two of the newest tools in Claude are aimed at the jobs most teams still do by hand every month. Claude Dashboards builds charts directly from your business data, writing the queries for you. Claude Motion turns your content into animated explainers and walkthroughs that you can export as a video. Both arrived as beta templates alongside Claude's Slides, Design and Docs. Neither will replace a full analytics team, but both can take a weekly reporting chore off your list if you set them up carefully.

What Claude Dashboards does

A Claude dashboard is built from your data platforms or connected apps, such as Salesforce. You describe what you want to see, Claude writes the queries, and the result is a set of charts. The detail that makes it trustworthy is that each chart shows the query behind it and when it was last refreshed. You can check exactly where every number came from, which is the difference between a dashboard you can show your manager and a pretty picture.

Dashboards is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, so free accounts don't have it. On Enterprise it is off until an owner turns it on. Dashboards rely on connectors, and in Claude each person connects their own apps, so a dashboard only sees what your account is allowed to see. Connector actions that need approval each time aren't available inside artifacts.

How to build your first dashboard

Check one setting first. "Create and edit files" has to be switched on. On Free, Pro and Max it is under Settings, then Capabilities. On Team and Enterprise it is under Organization settings, then Capabilities. Then connect the app your numbers live in.

To start, open Output in the message box and choose the Dashboards template, pick it from the Artifacts tab, or simply ask in a chat. Be specific about the questions the dashboard should answer, not just the data it should show. "Show our pipeline" is vague. "Show open opportunities by stage and owner, the deals expected to close this month, and how this quarter compares with last quarter" gives Claude something to build and gives you something to check.

Before you share it, open the query on the two or three numbers that matter most and compare them with the figures in the source app. If a chart counts something differently from how your team does, for example including deals that were closed and lost, tell Claude the rule in plain language and ask it to fix the query. Artifacts start out private to you, so you can test freely before sharing.

What Claude Motion does

Claude Motion makes animated explainers, animated charts and walkthroughs from your content. You can change any detail by asking Claude, and export the finished piece as an MP4 video. That makes it useful for things that are hard to explain in a static slide: how a new process works, how a metric changed over a year, or a product walkthrough for new customers.

Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only. It is on by default for Team and off for Enterprise until an owner enables it. If you are on Pro or Max, it isn't available yet. Claude doesn't make photographic images or realistic video, so think of Motion as animated graphics and text rather than a replacement for filmed footage.

Where these fit in a real week

The best first use for Dashboards is a report someone currently rebuilds by hand, like a Monday pipeline review or a monthly marketing summary. Build it once, check the queries, and next time ask Claude to refresh it before the meeting. Pair it with Cowork's scheduled tasks if you want a written summary of what changed alongside the charts.

The best first use for Motion is something people keep asking you to explain. Turn your answer into a short animated explainer, export the MP4 and drop it into your onboarding docs or your next all-hands deck. A minute of animation often replaces several meetings.

What to keep in mind

Both tools are betas, and Anthropic's help pages don't yet say much about refresh schedules or limits, so don't build a business-critical report on Dashboards without a manual check. Everything you make counts toward your plan's usage limits. And because a dashboard runs on your personal connectors, a colleague opening a shared dashboard may need their own access to the same data. If you are deciding which AI tool should handle your reporting, our Compare page sets Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini side by side for data work, and our guide to Claude Design, Slides and Docs covers the other templates in the same menu.
