The short answer
The best AI for ecommerce in November 2026 is Shopify Sidekick for anyone selling on Shopify, because it is included with every Shopify plan and works inside your admin: it writes product descriptions, edits orders, builds Flow automations, analyses store data and, since 24 October 2026, generates images with transparent backgrounds. ChatGPT is the runner-up on other platforms, and Canva Free is the best free tool for product visuals.

The best AI for ecommerce in November 2026
Running an online shop means a long list of small, repetitive jobs: product descriptions, photos, emails, discount campaigns, customer questions and the weekly look at what sold. AI is now good at most of them, as long as you check the facts it writes about your products. Our picks are based on what each maker documents today, not on a lab test.
| Tool | Pick it if | The catch | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Our pick | Shopify Sidekick | Your shop runs on Shopify | Only for Shopify, and features and limits vary by plan without published numbers |
| Runner-up | ChatGPT | You sell on another platform, or need copy and analysis at scale | It cannot see your store unless you paste or connect data, and training is on by default on personal plans |
| Best free | Canva Free | You need product visuals and social posts at no cost | Only limited AI on Free, and one Brand Kit with three colours |
Our pick: Shopify Sidekick
Why. If you are on Shopify, the AI built into your admin knows your products, orders and settings, which no outside chatbot does. Shopify calls Sidekick its AI-enabled commerce assistant, and it is included with your Shopify plan at no extra cost. Its help centre says Sidekick can handle multi-step tasks such as editing orders, build Shopify Flow workflows to automate repeated work, write and run code to forecast, compare or summarise store data, and create product descriptions, images and even custom apps. Longer tasks keep running if you close the chat, and you are notified when they are ready for review. It follows instructions you save as skills and learns your preferences through memory.
Shopify added a lot in October 2026. On 13 October Sidekick started helping customise checkout and customer accounts. On 24 October it began generating images with transparent backgrounds for your store and marketing. On 28 October it gained the ability to stage storefront changes in a draft and test them with AI-simulated shoppers, called SimGym, before recommending them. Text generation also sits in the product description editor and in blog posts, online store pages, Shopify Messaging emails and the theme editor, through the Generate text icon.
Who it suits. Every Shopify merchant, from a one-person shop to a growing brand. Open it from any admin page on desktop or in the Shopify app.
The catch. Shopify says features and usage limits vary by plan, device and language, without publishing the numbers, and some features are not optimised for mobile. Sidekick presents changes for your review before applying them, and Shopify itself warns that AI outputs can contain errors. Read every product claim, size and material before you publish, because you are responsible for what your store says.
Runner-up: ChatGPT
Why. For shops on other platforms, or for jobs bigger than one admin screen, OpenAI's ChatGPT is the most flexible tool. Upload a product spreadsheet and it can write 50 descriptions in your house style, analyse a sales export, or build a content calendar for a seasonal sale. ChatGPT Work creates documents, presentations and spreadsheets and uses connected apps. Image creation is on every plan, and Plus and higher plans since 7 October 2026 run GPT-6 Sol in the Chat tab, with answers that can include charts and small interactive tools. Projects on Plus keep your brand voice, product data and past campaigns together.
Who it suits. Merchants on WooCommerce, marketplaces or their own site, and Shopify merchants who want a second tool for bulk copy and analysis.
The catch. ChatGPT only knows what you give it. On Free, Plus and Pro, Improve the model for everyone is on by default; switch it off under your account menu, Settings, Data controls before uploading customer or sales data. ChatGPT Business keeps business data out of training by default. See our ChatGPT guide.
Best free option: Canva Free
Why. Product visuals sell, and Canva Free gives you more than 1.6 million templates, 4.7 million stock items and 5 GB of storage at no cost, plus limited access to Canva's Standard and Premium AI tools from a shared monthly AI allowance. Since 22 October 2026 every Canva user can generate images with Canva Craft, Canva's own image model, in Dream Lab, in more than 30 aspect ratios and with text in 55 languages. With templates and custom dimensions, one product photo can become a social post, a story, a banner and an email header.
Who it suits. New shops, sellers who make their own visuals, and anyone testing AI before paying.
The catch. Free has only limited access to Standard and Premium AI tools, no conversational design with Canva AI, and one Brand Kit limited to three colours. Canva Pro adds 10 times the Free AI allowance and five Brand Kits. For free AI photo editing, Google's Gemini app also includes Nano Banana 2 without a plan. See our Canva guide.
Answering shop customers with AI
Customer questions grow with the shop. Shopify Inbox offers suggested replies and instant answers in the admin. For a dedicated AI agent, Fin AI Agent covers ecommerce, works with Shopify-focused helpdesks such as Gorgias, and can process refunds through its Procedures. Our full comparison is in the best AI for customer support.
For automation between your shop, email tool and spreadsheets, Zapier connects more than 9,000 apps; see Zapier vs Make. Our suggested tool sets for small shops are on /stacks.
How to choose the right AI for your online shop
- Which platform do you sell on? On Shopify, start with Sidekick because it can act inside your store. On anything else, start with ChatGPT and connect or paste your data.
- What eats most of your week? Product copy and analysis point to Sidekick or ChatGPT. Visuals point to Canva. Customer questions point to a support agent such as Fin or Shopify Inbox.
- What data will you share? Customer names, addresses and orders belong only in tools covered by your platform's terms or a business plan with training off. Remove personal data before pasting exports into a personal chatbot.
An ecommerce workflow from new product to first sales review
Here is one product launch end to end.
- Collect the facts. Write down the materials, sizes, care instructions, what makes it different and who it is for. AI should never guess these.
- Write the product page. In Shopify, use Generate text in the product description with your facts, or ask ChatGPT for a description, an SEO title under 60 characters and a meta description.
- Make the images. Replace plain backgrounds in Shopify's file editor, create extra product and lifestyle images with Sidekick or Canva, then size them for each channel.
- Plan the launch. Ask ChatGPT for a two-week plan: an email to subscribers, three social posts and a small discount test.
- Check before publishing. Read every claim against your facts sheet, and check that no image shows something the product does not do.
- Review the first two weeks. Ask Sidekick to summarise sales and compare them with a similar product, or paste an export into ChatGPT. Change one thing at a time.
